Manassas, VA – The Amputee Coalition’s Limb Loss Awareness Month launches on April 1. This annual event’s goal is to spread awareness about limb loss and limb difference and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of the over two million Americans who have experienced amputations or were born with limb difference and the 28 million people who are at risk for amputation. The Amputee Coalition’s mission includes education, support and advocacy.
Jack Richmond, president and CEO of the Amputee Coalition say “Limb Loss Awareness month is celebrating its 7th anniversary and has seen an increased impact each year. Most people are surprised by the information we present. Facts like the leading cause for amputation is complications related to diabetes and that an estimated 2.1 million Americans live with limb loss or a limb difference. Limb Loss Awareness Month gives our community an opportunity to share stories about living well with limb loss or often their struggles to obtain access to the care they need to live the life they want to live.”
Limb Loss Awareness Month offers ways for the community to celebrate, motivate and activate through social media outreach, asking states to declare April Limb Loss Awareness Month by proclamation, sharing stories, and contacting insurance executives about not delaying or denying amputees access to prosthetic care.
